What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a scientifically proven technique that bridges the gap between the conscious and subconscious parts of your mind. The rational and analytical conscious mind is the one you are using to read this. The deeper subconscious mind is home to all of our memories, knowledge, habits and past experiences and is, as such, the cradle for all of our fears and anxieties. In hypnotherapy the conscious mind is kept distracted by the voice of the hypnotherapist so that the deep and buried subconscious mind can be drawn closer to the surface. This state where the subconscious mind is hyper-suggestible is called the trance state or hypnotic state and can be defined as an altered state of consciousness. Hypnotherapy relies on hypnosis and the trance state itself to reach the subconscious mind and remodel it through the repetition of positive suggestions.

What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

The initial 90 mn session (or clinical assessment) is essential to the process of hypnotherapy. During the first 30 minutes we will talk about your goals and how we can reach them. It is an informal conversation that will help me target the hypnotherapy session to your needs. For the remaining hour I will guide you into a trance state where I will repeat goal-oriented positive suggestions to your subconscious mind.

All the next sessions will last 60 mn only with about 45 minutes of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy works through repetition as the brain needs time to store the information in the long term memory. The more your subconscious mind hears the same positive suggestions, the more they will become natural and spontaneous!

How can I benefit from hypnotherapy?

Nowadays the amount of therapies you can choose from to improve your life can be overwhelming. Hypnotherapy distinguish itself by directly targeting the subconscious part of your mind and getting at the root of your issue. Hypnotherapy is very versatile and can target every negative frame of mind that has been created by your subconscious mind: anxieties, phobias, lack of self-esteem, substance abuse and undesirable behaviours  It can also help with pain management, decision making, sport performance, relationship issues, information retention for exam and sleep improvement. Hypnotherapy is also much faster than conventional therapy with an average of 4 to 6 weeks of therapy depending on individuals.

How long will it take for me to see results?

It really does depend on people. I usually recommend between four and six sessions with a follow up session every year.

In the hypnotherapy sessions we lay down new patterns of responding in the brain and these new patterns need strengthening and reinforcing to make them become habitual. Some of these patterns may even need specific events to happen before they become active. Sometimes, suggestion and ideas need time to travel from your unconscious mind to your conscious mind, because they need time to be understood and incorporated fully before they can affect your behavior (Jones., D, 2014).

I do recommend between four and six sessions  One follow up session every year may be useful depending on people.

Will I have to do everything you tell me to do?

Definitely not. As mentioned above you will be fully conscious and aware of everything that is happening to you. You will be completely free to make your own decisions and to get out of trance at any time.  Hypnosis is an active experience where you play as much of an important role as the hypnotherapist

Is everybody susceptible to hypnotherapy?

Yes! Yes! Yes! EVERYBODY can be put into trance and therefore EVERYBODY is susceptible to hypnotherapy.  In fact, the higher your ability to concentrate, the more susceptible to hypnosis and hypnotherapy you will be.
